As many of you may have heard, there was a violent situation during the PEI Early Bird Tournament over the weekend, involving our Chebucto U18AA Team and a Team from PEI. Hockey PEI, along with local PEI Police, are currently investigating this to determine consequences and next steps. I personally have been in contact with Hockey NS several times over the last few days and they are supporting our Association through this difficult situation.
With that said, we want to express our support, as an Association, to our Chebucto U18AA Team and state that this type of violence has no place in our sport. Hockey is about having fun and providing players with opporunities to develop both as athletes and human beings. As an Executive, we will be monitoring how this situation is handled and will be supporting our U18AA Team through this.
To close, both myself and our Executive VP, Craig Messervey, had the opporunity to meet with the U18AA Coaching Staff this evening about this situation and we want to share the messaging we gave them to our membership; do not let this unfortunate event define this season; let's make something positive out of this darkness and learn from it to make ourselves better, as players, parents, and coaches. They can rise above this as a team and we can rise above this as an Association.
Have a great evening,
