Thanks and a COVID Information Reminder

Hi Folks, A big thanks to all the Coaches, VPs, Coordinators, Managers and Safety people who have attempted to continue to provide ice time availability for our organization. It's not easy to design practices or coordinate groupings to allow this. Also a big thanks to the parents who have been so supportive during these times and the players who have done their best to participate within the current limitations. Just a reminder that the "what to do" along with Public Health guidelines for COVID situations for 2022 is under the COVID tab of our website : https://chebuctominorhockey.com/l/40/CMHA/pages/3348/2022-COVID-Protocols/ If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to contact me directly and I'll answer as best I can. Thanks again! VP Risk Bryan Esbaugh  risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com

U7 update Jan 2022

Hi U7 Families,  We are excited to be returning to the ice with our U7 program! Please read this email carefully. Note that there will be no adjustments to the groupings outlined, which will be in effect up to and including January 30th. Under current restrictions, we needed to re-group players. Restrictions which specify only players & Coaches are allowed in the rink at this time.   Please note: If anyone (player, Coach or Safety Rep) is unable to make a session, or doesn’t want to attend ice times, please reach out immediately to Matt White- VP U7 u7@chebuctominorhockey.com Safety reps are required for all Groups, and players cannot enter the arena until a Safety Rep has checked them in.  Please see attached groupings and schedule. U7 Groups Jan 2022 (1)  In order to meet our number restrictions and have good flow given these changes, we ask everyone to follow the below instructions: -        All players are to report to the rink fully dressed including skates and helmets. Masked must   be worn until entering ice surface. -        Safety Reps must check in players outside of the rink. -        Parents can remove skate guards in the front entrance. -        If your player is listed with a coach, you may enter the rink 15 minutes early. -        If your player is listed between numbers 1 through 8 for their group, you may check in 10 minutes prior to ice time. -        If your player is listed 9 through 16 for their group, you may check in 7 minutes prior to ice time. -        Please review with your player what number they are. -        Upon completion of their ice time, the players will exit via the side door. -        Players will be lined up in the same order as numbers assigned. -        We ask parents be waiting outside at the side door to receive their player in this order to make for a seamless exit from rink. -        While on ice, Players 1-8 will remain on one side of the ice with their identified coach. Players 9-16 on the other. Please discuss this with your player as there cannot be any mixing of groups at this time, so it is important for all players to remain on their side and listen to their coaches. -        Please have your player use the washroom before coming to the rink. With our limited numbers on ice and no support personnel allowed, bathroom breaks will be problematic! As a reminder- here is the Lions Rink Covid Protocols Jan 2022 COVID Rules  Thanks Matt, VP U7

Jan 2022 update

Hello Chebucto Families,                                                    January 10,2022       I hope this email finds you well, and everyone was able to enjoy time with Family over the Holiday season. Happy New Year!    CMHA has been working to get teams back to practicing, and we will begin Thursday Jan 13, 2022. Most teams can expect to be practicing during their already scheduled ice times. Some have been moved around to accommodate the current restrictions. See restart schedule : CMHA Restart Schedule Jan 2022 - Final  Please read this entire email to find the details you need. U7 & U9 have different plans- please make sure you make note of that plan in the notes below.   As per Public Health and HNS guidance: ·        Games and tournaments are not permitted ·        A maximum of 10 participants (including coaches and instructors) will be permitted in the field of play for practices and training; physical distancing is not required during these sessions, but masks are required everywhere in the facility but on the ice ·        Spectators will be not be permitted at any activities ·        Travel restrictions remain in effect that prohibit children age 11 and younger from entering or leaving Nova Scotia to participate in sports   Details on groups of 10:   Teams can practice in separate groups of up to 10 (including coaches and instructors) on the ice at the same time. Teams need to ensure that the groups (including coaches and instructors) are completely separated from the time they arrive at the facility until the time they leave. Players can not switch groups (ex: players are not permitted to spend half a practice with one group and then spend the other half with the other group) during the practice.  There can be no intermingling of cohorts so the space would have to allow for distancing between cohorts, staggered entry into the facility and onto the field of play, separate change rooms, etc.    Plan: Spryfield Lions Rink: Jan 2022 COVID Rules  No Spectators at all  Manager/safety (1) rep arrives 20 minutes before ice time to gather group 1- players and coaches- screen and at 15min before. Then that group goes into the rink.  Manager/Safety Rep (2) arrives 20 minutes before ice time to gather Group 2 -players and coaches – screen and at 15 min before. Then that group goes into the rink. Each group must remain with their group at all times, and enter and exit the ice separately. Group 1 will enter ice through closest ice surface door, and go the furthest end of the ice.                                             Ice is divided. Group 2 will enter through the closest ice surface door and stay at that end. Once ice time is completed, Group 2 will exit first, once they are in their dressing room, Group 1 will exit. Group 1 & 2 from each team will be on the same hour of ice. All players, once they finish in each dressing room, must exit out the side door together in their group. Coaches will have to make sure that this happens. This is the procedure for Spryfield Lions Rink: These guidelines should be followed in any arena we practice in. Entry doors and exit doors will be different in other facilities, please make yourself aware of the facility policy before you go.  ~U7 will look a bit different and will have additional plans in place. At this time, our current planning has to be changed, as we received info that the Lions rink is not allowing anyone besides the 2 groups of 10 in the rink. We do require a bit more help with this age group. Matt will be emailing Families with team lists and an additional email will be coming later this week with info- we apologize, and hope to get some groups on the ice this weekend. Jan 15 & 16….please answer his call for help….we really want to get these kids on the ice! Any questions or offers to help( need credentials) please reach out to Matt:  U7@chebuctominorhockey.com  ~U9 will also look different and will have additional plans in place. Please visit the website under the U9 tab (please click your team and news feed) for information and guidelines.  Please reach out to Desi at U9@chebuctominorhockey.com for any questions.   Contact tracing:   We continue to ask that the team safety rep/manager be informed of any Covid cases. Teams will be considered close contacts if they had exposure to the positive player/coach in the 48h prior to positive test and/or symptoms. Please make sure you inform coaches and team of any Covid 19 activity and take the appropriate steps of notification.   PLEASE NOTE: CMHA EXPECTS THAT ANY PLAYERS, TEAM STAFF THAT ARE COMING TO THE RINK, HAVE SELF SCREENED AND WILL NOT COME IF YOU ARE SICK OR HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS. PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING LINK FOR SELF ASSESSMENT  Coronavirus (COVID-19): symptoms and testing - Government of Nova Scotia, Canada   Please see below for some additional info: ·       Forum/Civic, SMU- allow only one safety rep/manager per session, teams will have to figure out who this will be.  RBC and HRM 4 pad- allows both a manager and a safety rep per session. ·       Masks are to be always worn in arenas and in the dressing rooms…Masks can be taken off ONLY when immediately putting your helmet on and immediately leaving the dressing room to get onto the ice surface.   ·       Any coach who is rostered on more than one team MUST wear a mask at all times, no exceptions.    ·       If a coach must interact with a child within 6 feet, they should “mask up” and then have the interaction.   ·       No player can enter the building until the safety rep & manager have arrived.  Coaches, safety reps / managers should arrive 20 minutes before the ice time, to manage groups prior to entry to the arena.   ·       Players are to arrive 15 minutes before ice time.  Please have your child refrain from waiting outside with other players.  If they must wait outside, they must be with their GROUP ONLY.   ·       Players are to come as dressed as possible.  For U11 and up at a minimum bottom gear, for U7 and U9 should be full gear including skates. As a point of clarity, there will be no skate tying by coaches.     ·       No spectators whatsoever.   ·       Coaches are to send out the list of groupings (2 groups of 8 players and 2 coaches per team prior to first ice time (If rosters are larger, then the player to coach ratio will be decided by the head coach, or VP of Division)   ·       These groupings cannot change until restrictions get updated after Jan 31, 2022.  There will be a schedule will be emailed to teams and also located on our news feed, beginning Jan 13, 2022- Jan 31, 2022 with each team getting practice times. U7-U21.     ·       CMHA players cannot intermix groups for CMHA ice times.  Private ice times are not under the purview of the CMHA, but if rented cannot be under CMHA or the team’s name.   ·       Any positive covid cases on a CMHA rostered team, the team Safety Rep or manager must be notified immediately, who then notifies the CMHA Safety Representative (Bryan Esbaugh- VP Risk Management). Risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com   ·       Any cancellation of ice due to COVID-19 must be requested through our ice scheduler, Katie Murphy at ice@chebuctominorhockey.com .     Thank you again for your continued support. We have yet again been put into a tough situation…but we have been here before and we can get through it again… We want to get back to normal, and are doing our best to provide a safe practice environment until Public Health and HNS provide updates.   If you are looking for contact information or general information, click this link to be brought to our website Chebucto Minor Hockey Association    Stay safe, Sara Aucoin President, CMHA

Chebucto - WEAR YOUR MASK - COVID

Hi Folks,

It has come to the attention of the Chebucto Executive that many of our spectators and players are not exercising proper mask discipline while inside facilities including dressing rooms.

We are still dealing with a pandemic and cases continue to arise and appear within our membership and on our teams. Wearing a mask is a key preventative measure to protecting those around you. If you are not wearing your mask properly, you are not protecting those around you.

This is particularly concerning to those groups who have participants who are not fully vaccinated at this time (U7, U9, U11, U13).

Complaints to this effect have been received from concerned members to the team Safety Reps and if this continues the Chebucto Executive will take action to limit and/or restrict spectators from events.

If in the opinion of the Chebucto Executive we cannot ensure we are minimizing chance of the spread of COVID due to lack of mask discipline, we will be forced to no longer allow spectators.

UPDATE ON TRAVEL TO NEW BRUNSWICK

Good afternoon everyone,   Following our consultations with Nova Scotia Public Health and Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang, we have been advised that fully-vaccinated teams can now travel to New Brunswick for sporting events provided that the event (game, tournament, etc.) they are attending has a requirement for both spectators and participants to show proof of vaccination (POV).   Teams with unvaccinated players under 12 are not permitted to travel to tournaments in New Brunswick where a circuit breaker is in place. Please visit the Government of New Brunswick website to find up-to-date information about what areas of the province are currently under circuit breaker restrictions.    While travelling to New Brunswick for competition, all local COVID-19 protocols and Public Health orders must be followed. Our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tina Atkinson would also like to strongly encourage all of our teams and hockey families to follow these guidelines to further decrease the risk of a COVID-19 exposure:   Wear masks at all times while indoors (only removing them for eating, drinking and playing hockey). Always wear masks while in crowded outdoor spaces where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Avoid crowded restaurants (and only visit restaurants where servers are masked). Wash and sanitize hands frequently. Avoid close contact with people you don’t know. Consider shopping for essential items only. We would also like to remind you all to follow the Rebound Plan 2.0 and keep a close eye on exposure notices from the province.   Sincerely,   Amy Walsh Executive Director Hockey Nova Scotia   Arnie Farrell President Hockey Nova Scotia     Garreth MacDonald Communications & Special Events Director Hockey Nova Scotia   259 Commodore Drive Dartmouth, NS, B3B 0M1 902.454.9400   hockeynovascotia.ca

Season Start Messages from VP Competitive and VP Recreation

Hello Chebucto Families, Messages from Stephen and Tim.... As we approach the start of the 2021/ 2022 regular season, I just wanted to send out a quick message as teams start to embark on what hopefully will be a very successful and enjoyable year of competitive hockey. First, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all involved in the 2021/ 2022 tryout process. For all volunteers, be it evaluators, on-ice and bench assistants, dressing room monitors and those working the check-in/ registration desk, these tryouts do not happen without you. Giving up your free time to ensure things are able to get done does not go unnoticed and your efforts are greatly appreciated. To parents, for driving your children to the rink, ensuring they have everything, being patient as lists are generated, and supporting your children as the tryout process plays out, these efforts go a long way to ensuring the process is a positive experience for players. When players are coming to the rink feeling positive, they are able to go on the ice, perform well, and more importantly, have fun. To players, who are the reason why the process is in place, for coming to each session, working hard, trying your best, and having fun, your efforts are applauded by everyone involved, and we hope you carry this on throughout the season. Lastly, to all competitive teams and those involved in them, best of luck. I hope that you are able to compete, improve, have fun, and represent Chebucto in a positive manner throughout the year, no matter what age group and level you are at. Provided COVID does not rear its ugly head, let’s hope for a full season of games, tournaments and lasting memories for all of the players involved. Stephen, on behalf of the Tryout Committee Go Chebucto!!! Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who made the Recreation Balancing an awesome experience. I am sure the kids appreciate it. On behalf of the Rec Balancing Committee, we wish all the players, coaches and staff the best of luck with the 2021-22 season. Go Chebucto! Tim Cranston, VP Recreation

Reminder of Mask Discipline at Arenas

Hi Chebucto, We are well into the start of our hockey season and I'm glad that there has been alot of support toward ensuring players are safe and we are adapting to the "newest" COVID normal. To the safety reps, managers and coaches who have reached out I really appreciate the questions, support and commitment to keeping our players and parents safe and within the requirements of the HNS Rebound Plan.   However, we have had several reports of inadequate mask discipline, and in particular large groups of younger players from our membership transiting the facility without masks which has been sighted by outside observation. We need to improve this immediately otherwise our membership will risk sanction due to increased risk of spread of infection within our association.  Of particular concern is wearing of masks in our younger age groups not able to currently get vaccinated. This is U13 and younger.  As a reminder, the HNS rebound plan and provincial guidelines indicate that masks must be worn off the ice including in the dressing room. To make this perfectly clear that means the players and on ice volunteers must endeavor to wear a mask right up until they are ready to step onto the ice, which is the point helmets should be put on, etc. Once they step off the ice they must endeavor to put a mask on immediately, and keep it on until they exit the facilities. See the exerpt from the HNS rebound plan below.  Players, parents, and volunteers can all help be vigilant here. Thanks for your help. Bryan Esbaugh VP Risk

UPDATE ON TRAVEL TO NEW BRUNSWICK

Good afternoon everyone,   On the advice of Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang, Hockey Nova Scotia will continue to prohibit teams from travelling to communities in New Brunswick located in zones affected by circuit breaker measures.   As an update to our Oct. 7 communication regarding travel to New Brunswick, we wanted to let you know that the circuit breaker measures that have been in effect in some areas since Friday, Oct. 8 have been extended until at least Friday, Oct. 29. Please note these measures could be extended into November.   These areas include Zone 1 (Moncton region) as far north as and including Sainte-Anne-de-Kent and including Havelock in Zone 2; the northern portion of Zone 3 from and including Deerville and Florenceville-Bristol, but excluding Hayesville and Parker Ridge; and all of Zone 4 (Edmundston region).   Late last week, it was announced that Zone 5 (Campbellton region) will also enter a 14-day circuit breaker beginning on Friday, Oct. 22.   A detailed breakdown of the areas of New Brunswick impacted by these measures can be found by clicking here.   We expect that New Brunswick Public Health will provide more information later this week on their restrictions. We will provide an update if anything changes.   Thank you for all that you do.    Sincerely,   Amy Walsh Executive Director Hockey Nova Scotia   Arnie Farrell President Hockey Nova Scotia

Travel Permit Information and updates

Hello Chebucto Team Managers, If you need a travel permit for team- Exhibition games, tournaments etc...please see the following message from HNS. ***Please note: Due to an high volume of requests for permits if you send an email request, please consider your email an automatic approval. (unless you hear otherwise) Please remember you can only play within your division.   To: All HNS Minor Hockey Associations, Team Managers, Coaches. From: Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council Date: October 6, 2021   RE: Interim Travel Permit Procedures   Hello everyone,   As we navigate through the new Hockey Canada Registry 3.0, there are some functions that are not readily accessible to users.  One of those is travel permits.   We have been told by Hockey Canada that the permit function should be available by the first part of November, therefore, in the interim we need to remain recording all of our games to satisfy HC Insurance requirements.   This pertains to ALL NON-LEAGUE GAMES ONLY. For those teams that play in leagues, a seasonal travel permit will still be provided and is not included within this communication.   For all other games, for ALL TEAMS, including exhibition (home or away), tournaments, etc., an email will need to be sent to the local Regional Director by a team rep which is to include the information below. All permits requested will be considered to be approved, unless notified by the Regional Director.   The following info is to be included with the permit request:   Team name Name, Level and Division of team playing against Time and Date of Game Venue   EXAMPLE   Bedford U13AAA Truro U13AAA 11:00 am October 22 RECC We recognize the inconvenience of this method and as soon as the HCR is able to process permits, that information will be communicated to you all.   Thank you for your cooperation and patience, and all that you do for minor hockey.     Brian Wentzell Chair, Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council       Jamie LeBlanc Halifax Regional Director HNS Minor Council

Lions Arena COVID protocols

Hi Folks, There is some new information regarding COVID protocols at Lions arena. Other facilities may differ. Lions will be allowing participants (players and coaches) into the facility 20 minutes prior to events for which we have the ice rented. The team safety representatives will be responsible to ensure that their teams (players and coaches) all have proof of vaccination status in accordance with HNS directives. For our home games it will be our responsibility to get this confirmation specifically from the visiting teams safety representatives, or staff.   Tell your team and staff to make sure they carry proof with them.   Spectators will be allowed in after participants have entered however it will be the team Safety representatives responsibility to ensure all spectators who enter have shown valid proof of vaccination. Proof must be carried with the individual (phone, paper, etc..) in case of random checks by province ( we’ve heard some rumors of this occurring..I don’t want any of our members to get a fine.) No Safety Rep, No spectators.   Once all spectators have entered Lions arena staff will lock the door until the beginning of the next session. Everyone in the facility for the previous session will exit through the side door as was done last year. For those of you familiar with Centennial Arena this is the same practice used there.   Masks must be worn by spectators in the facility however food and drink ( e.g. coffee) will be allowed inside and masks can only be removed to, for example, take a sip of coffee, etc. Mask requirements “in the field of play” remain as per HNS rebound plan guidelines.   If you are a team manager or safety person who has not specifically recieved an invite (based on our growing staff list...) please send me an email and I'll forward the meeting to you.   Cheers Bryan Esbaugh VP Risk Go Chebucto

Junior Coaching Leadership Program - Sign up today!!!

Hello Chebucto!!! Are you a U13 age or older player and interested in volunteer coaching? The Junior Coach Leadership Program is available to Minor Hockey players (U13 age and up) who wish to be involved in instructing U7 aged players and starting their coach leadership experience. We have had great success the past 3 seasons with the Junior Coach Leadership Program and we are hoping to continue it this season. Due to Covid-19 and the restrictions upon us last season, we were unable to successfully run the program. However, this year the U7's are set to hit the ice Oct. 16th/17th and we'd like the Junior Coaches to start as soon as the sessions begin. If your player is interested in becoming a part of the Junior Coach Leadership Program at Chebucto, please fill out the following form. All U7 sessions run on the weekends, times to be confirmed. Please click here and sign up!!!

Spectators at Upcoming Practices

Hi Folks, As teams are being settled and the first few practices are being scheduled here is some clarification regarding spectators at Chebucto on ice activities in the near term.  Until team rosters including saftey representatives have been settled, submitted to and approved by Hockey Nova Scotia, only participants and volunteers will be allowed within the facility. We do not expect to allow spectators until at least after our Rec balancing activities. We appreciate your understanding and are looking forward to having our fans and support again enjoying the season under safe conditions within the Provincial directives.  Thanks again for helping to make our startup processes successful and your support to our volunteer staff. U7 information will follow as soon as possible.   The responsibility of tracking, registering and policing all spectators in arenas is the requirement of the renter, ie. Chebucto Minor Hockey Association. While we have been following this practice and feel confident with it, we now have an added layer with the new Vaccination Policy to consider.( to view policy-click here) We have a good process in place managing the players/coaches , and we will be keeping our focus strictly on the players and the evaluation processes during the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, please note that CMHA will be working with Safety Reps to have a spectator plan in place for the remainder of the season following the tryouts and balancing sessions. We understand this may not be a popular decision but the decision was not taken lightly. The Board voted and unanimously agreed that we are doing this for the players experience, the focus on the tryout/ pre season recreation process and to make sure we have what we need in place for a safe return.   You may have read the recent email about Vaccination Proof that was sent out. Please read it and provide info to Bryan, VP Risk Management , you can find the info HERE.   With today’s announcement we are to follow a Modified Phase 5 . Please DO NOT come to the rink if you are sick or have symptoms. Please self assess before coming to the rink. Please click here for screening tool. What to expect when coming to the Lions Rink: Players will check in with the Safety Rep in the lobby 15 min before their session.  Players are required to wear a mask to enter and exit the arena, they can remove the mask once in the dressing       room just before putting on their helmet prior to session.  Our mask policy will remain the same as it was in Phase 4: On the ice, masks are not required during practices, training sessions, and games. Off the ice, masks will be required. Please note that coaches and instructors who work with more than one group must wear a mask at all times while inside the facility (including while on the ice) Players must arrive fully dressed including skates, if they are not able to dress and tie their skates on their own. If a player is able to dress and tie their own skates, then a dressing room will be available 15 min prior to ice time. All players must enter through the main doors and exit through the side doors located between the bleachers. When in the rink, all players must remain in the dressing room until the Zamboni is done cleaning the ice. This allows the players to leave the ice and limit contact around the exits. All Volunteers – please enforce this rule…this allows less contact among players when exiting the ice surface. This also means you…you must also be in the dressing room, not outside the door. Once the ice time is complete, players must leave within 15 minutes Please visit our website for contact information for all Board Members, if you have a question about a certain division/topic- please reach out to the appropriate Board Member. This season we have introduced Coordinator positions, please see below for details. These crucial roles will help us with all processes through the tryouts, rec balancing and season tasks…many thanks for volunteering. All contact information is on our new website powered by GrayJay. Please make sure to work with us to make the initial start a positive experience for all our players. This is a stressful time for the kids, back to school and parents and families navigating through all of the Covid information. We want the process from start to finish to be a positive one. We are all dealing with a lot of changes and different protocols that tend to take over our lives and bring out a negative response…. Let’s change this and keep the focus on our Chebucto Players. We want them to have fun! More details and updates about our season will be out after Tryouts and Recreation Pre Season. PS- 50/50 will begin as soon as teams are formed. We will be using Rafflebox, same as last year. We do not have a subscribe option for our website yet, it is in the works, please share this message with members you think may have missed it, and visit us on Facebook and Twitter All the best to our Chebucto players as they move into a new season! Proof of Vaccination Rollout - COVID Safety Reminder

Hi Chebucto Members, In accordance with upcoming provincial direction we are beginning our collection of proof of vaccine.    Please read the following rollout documentation: Proof of Vaccination Rollout This can also be found under the Risk Management Section of the "Policies" section of the site. REMINDER: all email proof of vaccination should go to: risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com Also -- IMPORTANT As we enter the tryout phases we must be vigilant to continue respecting the Phase 4 COVID protocols specifically about indoor masks. During the development period we needed to constantly remind players to keep masks on in the dressing room until they were ready to step onto the ice. If you are a parent please have a discussion with your player on the importance of this and continuing to follow this practice particularly for those in age groups who are unable to get vaccinated (i.e. U13 and younger).  In cases where we have repeat offenders identified that will not follow safety policies, either through inattention or apathy, these cases will be escalated to the Executive for potential discipline under violation of our Safety policies.   We all need to do our part to keep our membership safe. The most likely vector of transmission is from an unmasked individual to another. Bryan Esbaugh VP Risk

Message from Tryout Committee - Competitive Tryout Schedule and Information

Hello Chebucto families,    With tryouts just around the corner, the tryout committee is working very hard to get things ready to go for the start of another successful year of competitive hockey in Chebucto. As a reminder, with Hockey Nova Scotia’s Rebound Plan, tryouts cannot begin before October 1. While many components are still in the final phases of planning, we did want to provide some important information to help families plan for what will be a busy week. Please see link below for  Phase 1 of  the Tryout Schedule 2021 Tryout Schedule Final _Competitive    FAQ’s  Where will tryouts take place?  All tryouts will take place at the Lions Rink in Spryfield.  What COVID protocols are in place for tryouts?  COVID protocols, including those around vaccinations, are still being determined and will be communicated as quickly as possible. Will spectators be allowed in the rink?  Spectators will not be permitted in the rink. Only players, evaluators, tryout committee members, volunteers, and rink staff will be allowed to enter the building. What time should players arrive?  Players will be permitted to enter the rink 15 minutes prior to their designated time , so please plan accordingly. If a player requires assistance with equipment/ skates, there will be dressing room monitors available for all levels of play.   Will the entire tryout schedule be posted?  No. Players and parents will receive times for their initial tryout sessions no later than 9:00 PM Monday, September 27. At this time, we will also indicate the other blocks of time the specific age groups have assigned for the rest of the tryout schedule.  It does not mean the player will be on the ice for all of them, however, we hope it will help you plan for the tryout period. After the initial sessions, players will be re-grouped a number of times and these groupings will be posted as quickly as possible during the tryout process. If players can be informed of multiple session times, this will be provided. Who should I reach out to with questions?    If you have any questions prior to, or during the tryout process, please reach out to the following email: chebuctotryoutcommittee@gmail.com   . This will put you in contact with Cathy Delbridge, our ombudsperson, who will be acting as a liaison between the tryout committee and the members.  What can we expect during tryouts?  Please refer to the Competitive Tryout Policy document found on our website, at:   https://chebuctominorhockey.com/uploads/chebuctomha/source/0/Try%20Outs/Competitive%202021-2022%20Tryout%20Process_%20final.pdf    Why is the schedule compressed this year?  Due to the fact that we are unable to start until October 1st, timelines are very tight. This schedule will align with other association’s timelines, limit impacts on families and volunteers, and allow us to start practicing prior to the season start date.  How many competitive teams will there be at each age level?       This is something that the tryout committee will be looking at as the tryout process progresses and will be   communicated to the membership as soon as possible.  SPECIFIC AGE GROUP INFORMATION U11 Tryouts For families with a player(s) trying out for U11, tryouts will begin Saturday, October 2, and continue until Thursday, October 7. In closing, we would like to share the following message:   Frustrations arise every year throughout the tryout process. The process is not perfect and not an exact science – there will be multiple opinions on the relative talent within a group of individuals.  Please keep in mind that every effort is in place to deliver a fair evaluation to ensure that the players are placed on the most appropriate team, which will allow them to develop into better hockey players and, most importantly, on a team where they will have fun.  Thank you, Chebucto Minor Hockey Tryout Committee

Potential COVID Exposure - Prospect Road Elementary

Hello Chebucto Families, We have received notification that there has been a positive COVID-19 case and potential exposure at Prospect Road Elementary School (PRES). At this point, we do not know any specifics but, to be safe, we are asking any PRES students to not attend any further development sessions until you have verified through Nova Scotia Health that your child does not pose a potential risk of spread to other members of our hockey community and that your child is not required to self isolate as a result. Failure to do so may result in a large disruption to the start of our hockey season specifically for U13 and below age groups along with increased public health risk.  You may call Health Nova Scotia at: 1-800-430-9557 for more information.  We apologize for any inconvience this may cause. Our primary objective is to do all we can to minimize/eliminate the potential of spread within our hockey family and disruption to the start of the season.  We appreciate your understanding and assistance in this matter. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to email VP Risk Chebucto.  Stay safe, Go Chebucto! VP Risk - Bryan Esbaugh

Proof of Vaccinations and Provincial Guidance

Hi Folks, Firstly, the Chebucto Executive would like to thank the members of the association that have reached out with questions pursuant to the recent Provincial announcements regarding moving to Phase 5 and further measures such as proof of vaccination. We will be taking these concerns forward for discussion.  Chebucto Minor Hockey will and must follow the policies set out by Hockey Nova Scotia, which in turn receives policy direction from Sport Nova Scotia (i.e. the Provincial Government). We are working with Hockey Nova Scotia to clarify the specifics as to what this will mean and how this will look when our members, volunteers and players show up to the arenas/facilities and communication will be forthcoming likely following meetings happening on or around Sept 20th. For now we will continue to follow our Phase 4 protocols and ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate the rapidly changing landscape. We highly recommend that, in accordance with anticipated provincial policy, that you take measures as soon as possible to ensure vaccination for participants and spectators as best you are able in advance of Oct 4th when these measures are expected be in force.  If you have any questions, or concerns please feel free to contact Bryan Esbaugh - VP Risk Management. Go Chebucto -Bryan Esbaugh (risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com)

COVID-19 Safety During Development Sessions

Hi Folks, I'm sure everyone is very much looking forward to kicking off the Chebucto Development Sessions in anticipation of tryouts and the regular season.  Just a friendly reminder to please ensure you and your family abide by Health Nova Scotia COVID-19 regulations. In particular, if you have COVID-19 symptoms and are waiting to be tested and/or get your test results you or your family may be legally required to self-isolate for up to 14 days, or as directed by Public Health. So, please do not show up to the development sessions if you or your child are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and waiting to be tested, awaiting test results, or otherwise been told by Public Health that you or your child needs to self-isolate. This may be the case while you are waiting to get your results or are waiting out a 14-day isolation period due to a high risk exposure as the case may be for those under 12 years of age and those who are unable to be vaccinated.  As we go forward, we will continue to follow the guidance from Public Health and Hockey Nova Scotia and adjust our policies as appropriate.  The complete list of self-isolation requirements are here. Developmental Groups

Good evening Chebucto families, Thank you for your interest in our preseason development blocks. Again this year we have a large number of participants across all age levels. Thanks also for your patience as we worked to accommodate all our ice needs. We were able to secure all our ice times at the Halifax Forum. For some players in U15 and U18, you will notice that there is a U15 / U18 combined group. This was necessary due to the overall numbers in those particular divisions. The focus of these blocks is all individual skill so this will not impact any players development. Please click on the following link to access all groups and times.   Preseason Groups and Schedule  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W-HX7dy0YFlg59LRwZeCK8teBpcDrtcuhzK201IWmhc/edit#gid=1119923799     Once you have had an opportunity to review your players group and schedule, and If you are able to assist with player check in, dressing room monitoring, etc. please reach out by email. In the email please indicate the Age , Group ( A,B,C etc.) and which specific dates you are available.  If there are any errors, please do not hesitate to contact me at this email address.  Looking forward to getting back on the ice !  Ja-red

Chebucto Development

Here we are, our last weekend without hockey!   I am excited to get back and see all the players on the ice again. The response to our preseason development has been fantastic, and it will provide a strong foundation for our players to start the season. To clarify any misconceptions that may be out there, no player is being evaluated, scored or judged on any on ice performance prior to October 1st. All evaluations for team placements will take place during the official tryout process. As we prepare for our first week on ice, I want to remind everyone that at this time, the only people allowed in the rink are those on ice, the dressing room attendants, and the safety- check in person. These volunteers can remain in the arena but must follow the safety protocols outlined in the Rebound Plan . Thanks to those who have reached out to full-fill some of these rolls, but we are still in need of more volunteers. If you are able to volunteer, please use the link at the bottom of this email to access the interactive spreadsheet and add your name where you are able to.  Players can begin arriving 20 minutes prior to their scheduled time, and it is recommended that they come dressed, or partially dressed, including skates tied, if they are unable to do these by themselves. Masks must be worn inside the arena at all times, unless players are on the ice. Respect social distancing when possible.  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zYiD3yKDX3GaHoLO1v1p3r1YURN_BU-U5-KHafmVlEY/edit?usp=sharing If you have any questions, feel free to reach me by email.  Thanks Ja-red Glazebrook VP of Development, CMHA  http://chebuctominorhockey.com    chebuctodevelopment2021@gmail.com

August 4, 2021Hello Chebucto Minor Hockey Association (“CMHA”) Members,The CMHA is pleased to announce that we will be offering pre-season development sessions for our players.  With an official start date of October 1st for the upcoming season, this is an opportunity for our players to shake off the rust and refine their individual skills.  Our on-ice program is designed for players of all skill levels from U9 to U18 to prepare for the upcoming season. These sessions will include a broad range of drills while following Hockey Nova Scotia‘s Rebound Plan. Our preseason will run August 27th - August 31st and resume September 7th and will run through until the final week of September.  Below you will find the days and times, however, the exact dates and time slots for specific groups will be confirmed once registration is closed. Pre Season update- VP Development, Ja-red Glazebrook - CMHA

August 15, 2021Pre-season update Thanks to everyone who has signed up for their pre-season blocks. There is still time and space for those who are interested. A reminder that registrations are due by August 19th. I have received a number of emails regarding ice times between August 27th-31st, and a wide range of conflicts that these dates have. Our fantastic ice scheduler, Katie Murphy, has worked with the Halifax Forum to secure enough ice for us between September 7th and September 25th so that we will no longer have to use any ice in August. Way to go Katie ! So to clarify, you will still receive the same amount of ice per block ( 1 block - five hours, and 2 blocks- 10 hours), but all ice sessions will take place between September 7th-September 25th. With regards to spectators and players arriving dressed. Although some facilities have permitted spectators, at this time it would be very difficult for us to ensure that we have accurate screening and tracking for each and every individual. This is different from the regular season, where each team has a format and a designated safety rep. We are hopeful that restrictions will be modified prior to September 7th. Please reach out to Ja-red Glazebrook, VP Development if you have any questions chebuctodevelopment2021@gmail.com
