Proof of Vaccination Rollout - COVID Safety Reminder

Hi Chebucto Members,

In accordance with upcoming provincial direction we are beginning our collection of proof of vaccine.

Please read the following rollout documentation:

Proof of Vaccination Rollout

This can also be found under the Risk Management Section of the "Policies" section of the site.

REMINDER: all email proof of vaccination should go to:

risk.management@chebuctominorhockey.com

Also -- IMPORTANT

As we enter the tryout phases we must be vigilant to continue respecting the Phase 4 COVID protocols specifically about indoor masks. During the development period we needed to constantly remind players to keep masks on in the dressing room until they were ready to step onto the ice.

If you are a parent please have a discussion with your player on the importance of this and continuing to follow this practice particularly for those in age groups who are unable to get vaccinated (i.e. U13 and younger).

In cases where we have repeat offenders identified that will not follow safety policies, either through inattention or apathy, these cases will be escalated to the Executive for potential discipline under violation of our Safety policies.

We all need to do our part to keep our membership safe. The most likely vector of transmission is from an unmasked individual to another.

Message from Tryout Committee - Competitive Tryout Schedule and Information

Hello Chebucto families,

With tryouts just around the corner, the tryout committee is working very hard to get things ready to go for the start of another successful year of competitive hockey in Chebucto. As a reminder, with Hockey Nova Scotia’s Rebound Plan, tryouts cannot begin before October 1. While many components are still in the final phases of planning, we did want to provide some important information to help families plan for what will be a busy week.

Please see link below for  Phase 1 of  the Tryout Schedule

2021 Tryout Schedule Final _Competitive

 FAQ’s

  •  Where will tryouts take place?

All tryouts will take place at the Lions Rink in Spryfield.

  •  What COVID protocols are in place for tryouts?

COVID protocols, including those around vaccinations, are still being determined and will be communicated as quickly as possible.

  • Will spectators be allowed in the rink?

Spectators will not be permitted in the rink. Only players, evaluators, tryout committee members, volunteers, and rink staff will be allowed to enter the building.

  • What time should players arrive?

Players will be permitted to enter the rink 15 minutes prior to their designated time , so please plan accordingly. If a player requires assistance with equipment/ skates, there will be dressing room monitors available for all levels of play.

  •   Will the entire tryout schedule be posted?

No. Players and parents will receive times for their initial tryout sessions no later than 9:00 PM Monday, September 27. At this time, we will also indicate the other blocks of time the specific age groups have assigned for the rest of the tryout schedule.  It does not mean the player will be on the ice for all of them, however, we hope it will help you plan for the tryout period. After the initial sessions, players will be re-grouped a number of times and these groupings will be posted as quickly as possible during the tryout process. If players can be informed of multiple session times, this will be provided.

  • Who should I reach out to with questions?

If you have any questions prior to, or during the tryout process, please reach out to the following email: chebuctotryoutcommittee@gmail.com   . This will put you in contact with Cathy Delbridge, our ombudsperson, who will be acting as a liaison between the tryout committee and the members.

  •  What can we expect during tryouts?

Please refer to the Competitive Tryout Policy document found on our website, at:

https://chebuctominorhockey.com/uploads/chebuctomha/source/0/Try%20Outs/Competitive%202021-2022%20Tryout%20Process_%20final.pdf

  •  Why is the schedule compressed this year?

Due to the fact that we are unable to start until October 1st, timelines are very tight. This schedule will align with other association’s timelines, limit impacts on families and volunteers, and allow us to start practicing prior to the season start date.

  •  How many competitive teams will there be at each age level?

This is something that the tryout committee will be looking at as the tryout process progresses and will be   communicated to the membership as soon as possible.

We hope that all players are excited to get things underway, and we look forward to seeing them on the ice for tryouts. In closing, we would like to share the following message:

Frustrations arise every year throughout the tryout process. The process is not perfect and not an exact science – there will be multiple opinions on the relative talent within a group of individuals.  Please keep in mind that every effort is in place to deliver a fair evaluation to ensure that the players are placed on the most appropriate team, which will allow them to develop into better hockey players and, most importantly, on a team where they will have fun.

Thank you,

Chebucto Minor Hockey Tryout Committee

Potential COVID Exposure - Prospect Road Elementary

Hello Chebucto Families,

We have received notification that there has been a positive COVID-19 case and potential exposure at Prospect Road Elementary School (PRES). At this point, we do not know any specifics but, to be safe, we are asking any PRES students to not attend any further development sessions until you have verified through Nova Scotia Health that your child does not pose a potential risk of spread to other members of our hockey community and that your child is not required to self isolate as a result.

Failure to do so may result in a large disruption to the start of our hockey season specifically for U13 and below age groups along with increased public health risk.

You may call Health Nova Scotia at: 1-800-430-9557 for more information.

We apologize for any inconvience this may cause. Our primary objective is to do all we can to minimize/eliminate the potential of spread within our hockey family and disruption to the start of the season.

We appreciate your understanding and assistance in this matter.

If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to email VP Risk Chebucto.

Stay safe, Go Chebucto!

Proof of Vaccinations and Provincial Guidance

Hi Folks,

Firstly, the Chebucto Executive would like to thank the members of the association that have reached out with questions pursuant to the recent Provincial announcements regarding moving to Phase 5 and further measures such as proof of vaccination. We will be taking these concerns forward for discussion.

Chebucto Minor Hockey will and must follow the policies set out by Hockey Nova Scotia, which in turn receives policy direction from Sport Nova Scotia (i.e. the Provincial Government).

We are working with Hockey Nova Scotia to clarify the specifics as to what this will mean and how this will look when our members, volunteers and players show up to the arenas/facilities and communication will be forthcoming likely following meetings happening on or around Sept 20th.

For now we will continue to follow our Phase 4 protocols and ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate the rapidly changing landscape.

We highly recommend that, in accordance with anticipated provincial policy, that you take measures as soon as possible to ensure vaccination for participants and spectators as best you are able in advance of Oct 4th when these measures are expected be in force.

If you have any questions, or concerns please feel free to contact Bryan Esbaugh - VP Risk Management.

Go Chebucto
