Season Start Messages from VP Competitive and VP Recreation

Hello Chebucto Families,

Messages from Stephen and Tim....

As we approach the start of the 2021/ 2022 regular season, I just wanted to send out a quick message as teams start to embark on what hopefully will be a very successful and enjoyable year of competitive hockey.

First, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all involved in the 2021/ 2022 tryout process. For all volunteers, be it evaluators, on-ice and bench assistants, dressing room monitors and those working the check-in/ registration desk, these tryouts do not happen without you. Giving up your free time to ensure things are able to get done does not go unnoticed and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

To parents, for driving your children to the rink, ensuring they have everything, being patient as lists are generated, and supporting your children as the tryout process plays out, these efforts go a long way to ensuring the process is a positive experience for players. When players are coming to the rink feeling positive, they are able to go on the ice, perform well, and more importantly, have fun.

To players, who are the reason why the process is in place, for coming to each session, working hard, trying your best, and having fun, your efforts are applauded by everyone involved, and we hope you carry this on throughout the season.

Lastly, to all competitive teams and those involved in them, best of luck. I hope that you are able to compete, improve, have fun, and represent Chebucto in a positive manner throughout the year, no matter what age group and level you are at. Provided COVID does not rear its ugly head, let’s hope for a full season of games, tournaments and lasting memories for all of the players involved.

Stephen, on behalf of the Tryout Committee

Go Chebucto!!!

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who made the Recreation Balancing an awesome experience. I am sure the kids appreciate it. On behalf of the Rec Balancing Committee, we wish all the players, coaches and staff the best of luck with the 2021-22 season. Go Chebucto!

Reminder of Mask Discipline at Arenas

Hi Chebucto,

We are well into the start of our hockey season and I'm glad that there has been alot of support toward ensuring players are safe and we are adapting to the "newest" COVID normal.

To the safety reps, managers and coaches who have reached out I really appreciate the questions, support and commitment to keeping our players and parents safe and within the requirements of the HNS Rebound Plan.

However, we have had several reports of inadequate mask discipline, and in particular large groups of younger players from our membership transiting the facility without masks which has been sighted by outside observation. We need to improve this immediately otherwise our membership will risk sanction due to increased risk of spread of infection within our association.

Of particular concern is wearing of masks in our younger age groups not able to currently get vaccinated. This is U13 and younger.

As a reminder, the HNS rebound plan and provincial guidelines indicate that masks must be worn off the ice including in the dressing room. To make this perfectly clear that means the players and on ice volunteers must endeavor to wear a mask right up until they are ready to step onto the ice, which is the point helmets should be put on, etc. Once they step off the ice they must endeavor to put a mask on immediately, and keep it on until they exit the facilities. See the exerpt from the HNS rebound plan below.

Players, parents, and volunteers can all help be vigilant here. Thanks for your help.

UPDATE ON TRAVEL TO NEW BRUNSWICK

Good afternoon everyone,

On the advice of Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang, Hockey Nova Scotia will continue to prohibit teams from travelling to communities in New Brunswick located in zones affected by circuit breaker measures.

As an update to our Oct. 7 communication regarding travel to New Brunswick, we wanted to let you know that the circuit breaker measures that have been in effect in some areas since Friday, Oct. 8 have been extended until at least Friday, Oct. 29. Please note these measures could be extended into November.

These areas include Zone 1 (Moncton region) as far north as and including Sainte-Anne-de-Kent and including Havelock in Zone 2; the northern portion of Zone 3 from and including Deerville and Florenceville-Bristol, but excluding Hayesville and Parker Ridge; and all of Zone 4 (Edmundston region).

Late last week, it was announced that Zone 5 (Campbellton region) will also enter a 14-day circuit breaker beginning on Friday, Oct. 22.

A detailed breakdown of the areas of New Brunswick impacted by these measures can be found by clicking here.

We expect that New Brunswick Public Health will provide more information later this week on their restrictions. We will provide an update if anything changes.

Thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Amy Walsh
