U7 Welcome and Information

Hello, Chebucto U7 Families and Fans!

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Hockey Season! As we get set to kick off the regular season, I'd like to provide some helpful information to prepare us for a successful season all of our players and members will enjoy.

For parents of First Time Skaters:

Chebucto will be holding a preseason introductory skating session at 5:30pm on Oct.1st at the Civic Arena on Windsor Street in Halifax. This session is free of charge and open to any and all first time skaters to help them get a little more comfortable on the ice before the season starts. Parent volunteers are welcome to come out with skates, CSA approved helmet, hockey gloves and stick to help and encourage the kids.

Please read carefully over the following list of equipment as full gear is required for all participants.

• Helmet (with full shield or cage)

• Neck Guard

• Shoulder Pads

• Elbow Pads

• Hockey Pants

• Jersey

• Shin Pads

• Protective Cup (Jock/Jill)

• Hockey Socks

• Skates (skate guards recommended)

• Stick

• Hockey Gloves

Group jerseys will be provided at a later date so please bring your own jersey until then.

For returning U7 players:

Chebucto will be holding a Welcome Back to Hockey session for returning players and new more experienced skaters at 6:30pm on Oct.1st at the Civic Arena on Windsor Street in Halifax. This session is free of charge and will be a fun focused session of power skating and Hockey games to kick things off.

An important note on Respect in Sport

Hockey Nova Scotia has the requirement that one parent of all newly registered players and transfers from outside Nova Scotia regardless of division must complete this online course by November 15th of the current season as player will be prohibited from stepping on the ice after this date until completed.
Registration must be completed prior to taking this course. The cost is $12 and is paid directly by the parent.
Parents who have completed the Parent Respect in sport program for another child's registration you can sign back in and add your new player.

Grouping and ice times are coming soon as well as volunteer certification information for anyone interested in serving in the organization. We are very proud of our volunteer base and value each of them very much. We strive to provide excellent training and support to each one to create a healthy environment where players and volunteers thrive while building bonds and friendships through serving one another and the members of our community. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know and I will be happy to help you get started.

Lastly, I will communicate most everything via email but to receive all communications and updates from Chebucto Minor Hockey please go to https://chebuctominorhockey.com/ and scroll down near the bottom of the page, just above "Leagues" and click "subscribe". This will add your email to the master list so you don't miss out in any news or updates from the Association.

If anyone has any questions or needs anything at all, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm here to help in any way I can. I look forward to serving you as VP of U7 again this season and making this a unforgettable experience for our youngest hockey stars.

All the very best in Hockey this year!!

 Advancing, Intermediate, and Development Groups

Players will be divided into advancing, intermediate and development groups based on the NSST evaluations.  Groups will be announced before 11pm Sunday, October 15th. Team rosters for the 2023-2024 year and the first practice weekend times (Oct 21/22) will be posted by Thursday, October 19th.

If your player is new to hockey or skating we encourage to “opt out” of NSST evaluations and they will be placed directly in Development. Email U9@chebuctominorhockey.com your child’s full name and date of birth with “Opt out” in subject by Sunday, October 8th, and then watch for information regarding the Development team rosters.

All communication for U9 will be sent by email and posted on the Chebucto Minor Hockey Association Website at chebuctominorhockey.com.  Check your email and/or chebuctominorhockey.com often for updates! If you do not currently receive Chebucto emails, we recommend subscribing to the website.

Message to U13 Competitive Family from VP of Competitive

To all U13 Competitive families,

I just wanted to send out a quick note after our first weekend of evaluations.

First, congratulations to the players who were selected to continue on in our U13AAA evaluations. It was a busy weekend with numerous sessions, and thankfully things were not interrupted by the storm.

Second, the schedule moving forward will look like this:

Monday, September 18: Intersquad game vs Truro, 6:30pm at East Hants

Tuesday, September 19: Intersquad game vs Truro, 6:30pm at East Hants

A reminder to players in these games to ensure you know what night you are playing and to arrive at least 30 minutes prior.

The original schedule had players in two more intersquad games; one on Thursday and one on Friday, but we will be removing the Friday game, as the evaluation committee feels they will have sufficient data on all players after Thursday's game.

After the final intersquad game, and before the exhibition games vs Sackville, the list will be cut to 12 forwards, 8 defence, and 3 goalies.

Finally, a reminder that being selected for this group does NOT guarantee placement on U13AAA or U13AA. Any players or goalies, after Thursday's intersquad game, who are placed in the U13AA/ A/ B evaluations, which begin September 24, will be competing with all remaining U13 players for spots on these teams.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our ombudsperson at:

ombudsperson@chebuctominorhockey.com

They will answer your question(s), or bring it to the attention of the evaluation committee for further discussion.

Thanks, and best of luck to all players in the remaining U13 evaluations.

Stephen, on behalf of the evaluation committee
