Sincerest Condolences for the Passing of Coach Graham Gilbert - U11B

Dear Chebucto,

It is with extremely heavy hearts Chebucto shares the loss of a cherished Coach; Graham Gilbert, who lost his courageous battle with cancer this past Sunday.

Graham has been a dedicated coach at Chebucto for the past 6 years, coaching U7-U11 and multiple divisions at once, including the current season with the U11B team and U7 Group 1. As a Chebucto Alumni himself, the rink held a special spot in Graham’s heart, he thoroughly enjoyed coaching the future generations of athletes and his efforts were appreciated tenfold.

During this time, Coach Graham touched many hearts, he was a truly remarkable man, always sharing a smile and supportive encouragement. He will be truly missed. CMHA Board of Directors, Volunteers and Membership would like to extend deepest condolences to Graham’s wife and 3 children, extended family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time and into the future.

Full obituary below, as is the link to the go fund me page, organized in Graham’s honour to support Chebucto.

Celebrating the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes - Gulls versus Wolverines - Jan 29th Forum 6 pm

Hey Chebucto Atlantics'  families,

The Halifax Wolverines U15 Major Hockey Team would like to draw your attention to Black History Month which occurs in February.

As part of recognizing Black History Month, the Halifax Wolverines U15 Major team will be celebrating the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes during the game versus the Gulls on January 29th, 6 pm at the Halifax Forum.

They will celebrate the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes (CHL), and the significant contributions it made to hockey in our region and beyond.

The game will feature special guests and a commemorative jersey, recognizing the 130th anniversary of the CHL.

They would like to extend an invite to all Chebucto Atlantics' players and parents to attend and celebrate with us. We are encouraging everyone in the hockey community, as well as the community in general, to come out and support and recognize the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes.

As part of the celebration, we are encouraging minor hockey players to wear their team jersey and they will receive a ticket upon entry and we will have in excess of 50 prize draws for them throughout the evening.

The Wolverines will be donating the proceeds of  the 50/50 draw to the Black Hockey Initiative through Hockey Nova Scotia.

Again, game time is 6:00 p.m. at the Halifax Forum. Come on out in support!

Background:

“Created in 1895 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes (CHL) evolved from a small ice hockey league formed by African United Baptist Association leaders into a competitive all-Black Maritime hockey league. During its 30-year existence, a total of 12 teams and hundreds of men played in the league. The league and its players, however, endured racism on and off the ice that, coupled with economic and wartime factors, led to the league’s disbandment in 1925.

Still, with the rising popularity of organized ice hockey in Canada in the early 20th century, this segregated league was the only league of its kind in Canadian history. The league illustrates how African Canadian communities in the Maritimes fought for equality in sports and used hockey to advance social change in Canada.”

CMHA Mid-Season Feedback

Hi Chebucto,

It's just 2 weeks into 2025 and the hockey season is at the mid way point.

At this time we'd invite our membership to submit some mid-season feedback using the following form.

Mid-Season Feedback Form

Your feedback is very important to us as we seek to continuously improve to provide the best hockey experience possible for our players.

Please also note that "Positive" feedback ( i.e. - things that are particularily good and we should continue) is just as important as "Negative" (i.e. - opportunities for improvement).

Please take 5 mins to fill in the form and share your thoughts.

Go Chebcuto!
