Are you a U13 player or older and interested in volunteer coaching? The Junior Coach Leadership Program offers a great opportunity to develop leadership skills while helping coach U7 players. It’s a fun way to stay involved in hockey, build your resume, and give back to the community.
As a Junior Coach, you’ll be assigned to one of the four U7 teams, where you’ll improve your communication and leadership skills. You’ll work directly with the head coach to stay updated on practice plans, and on the ice, you’ll take the lead in demonstrating drills and supporting U7 players as they learn.
The program also includes 1-2 Professional Development sessions throughout the season, starting with a mandatory orientation session on Monday, October 7th, from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Atlantic Room (inside the Spryfield Arena). The orientation will feature a keynote speaker, leadership development activities, and important information on the program, including the roles and responsibilities of Junior Coaches.
Past keynote speakers have included Kori Cheverie (Canadian National Women’s Team Coach, guest coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins), Troy Ryan (Head Coach Women's National & Olympic Team, and PWHL Toronto), and Jim Midgley (Halifax Mooseheads Head Coach, Assistant Coach PWHL Toronto).
It’s a fantastic way to build your resume and earn volunteer hours while contributing to the hockey community. We ask for a commitment to attend 75% of practices, but we understand there may be times you can’t make it. All U7 sessions take place on weekends, with exact times to be confirmed.
