Hockey Halifax Summit

The Society for Equity in Sport is inviting members of the hockey community to take part in their Halifax Hockey Summit later this month.

The event takes place from June 24-25 at the Prince George Hotel in Halifax and is designed for players, parents, coaches, administrators, and officials. Speakers include former Montreal Canadiens forward Georges Laraque, NHL on TNT analyst and former NHLer Anson Carter, the Buffalo Beauts’ Mikyla Grant-Mentis, and national women’s team Olympic gold medalist Jill Saulnier.

Trailblazer Bill Riley, the first African Nova Scotian to play in the NHL, will also be speaking at the event and the two Hockey Nova Scotia awards honouring his contributions to the game will be presented.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.

Here is how the organizers are describing the event:

About this event

Join Portia Clark (CBC Information Morning) in conversation with Anson Carter, Jill Saulnier, Georges Laraque, Mikyla Grant-Mentis, Dre Barone, and other hockey personalities as we inspire positive change through difficult conversations.

Plus, hear from Bill Riley (the first African Nova Scotian to crack the NHL with the Washington Capitals), on his trailblazing experiences while breaking barriers in the game. The inaugural Hockey Nova Scotia Bill Riley Award and Bill Riley Scholarship will also be presented.

This summit is designed for players, parents, coaches, officials and administrators as we collaborate and discuss important topics in hockey such as:

- Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: Moving beyond the buzzwords

- Inclusive leadership: What does that look like?

- Highlighting best practices and guidance in conducting local investigations

- Building blocks to an ideal code of conduct, What is zero tolerance?

- Is there a role for restorative justice in hockey?

- What our hockey heroes are saying
